So a few Top Five Friday’s ago, I did a TBR series post, so now I wanted to do a post with my top five favorite series that I have actually read.
BUT this list will not include Harry Potter, The Mortal Instruments, or The Infernal Devices, simply because that’s basically a given and I wanted to go farther than that. So, here we go!
5. THE DARKEST MINDS BY ALEXANDRA BRACKEN
Oh man, Alexandra Bracken is so amazing. Can we all agree on that? Obviously we know how dystopian novels go, we see a lot of them, (something else we can agree on), but Bracken did a couple things that I loved in her’s.
First, she eliminated the love triangle. Where there might have been one, she destroyed it by making the handsome “other guy” a total creep and psychopath. She gave us a ship worth shipping. And even the reasons that kept Ruby and Liam apart weren’t stupid ones that could be resolved with a simple conversation that characters never seem to have. They were life or death, saving the world kind of issues.
Secondly, she gives us complete satisfaction in the end. And that is something that I appreciate. Does she give us complete stories for each character on how they end up in life, or what the world looks like? No, but she gives us a driving off into the sunset kind of ending, and that’s something I loved.
4. THE LUNAR CHRONICLES BY MARISSA MEYER
I feel like I don’t need to explain myself here. Fairytale retellings in the future with space travel and cyborgs. It’s prefect.
3. SHADES OF MAGIC BY V.E. SCHWAB
Say hello to my new favorite series. You’ve probably heard me rant and rave about this series a lot. It’s such an adventure! The characters are so well put together, they are being developed to perfection. I just can’t explain how much I love these books and how much it’s killing me to wait for the third.
2. MARA DYER BY MICHELLE HODKIN
I think what I really loved about the Mara Dyer trilogy is how dark it was. It really takes you through a story riddled with depression, confusion, and fear. Even the covers, which are so captivating, show a struggle from the inside, and the difficulty of holding on in the midst of all that. It’s really a beautiful, and twisted at times, story.
Oh, and Noah Shaw is my everything.
1. THRONE OF GLASS BY SARAH J. MAAS
And that brings me to the Throne of Glass series. Words cannot describe the excitement I have for Empire of Storms. This series brought my love of fantasy to a whole new level. I love every character, I love that I’ve shipped so many ships, I just love everything about this series. If you need an explanation, just ask, because I will hand you a list of the reasons this series is perfection.
Well that’s all for this Friday. What are some of your favorite series?
