Top Five Friday: Series TBR

Series, trilogies, sagas are all huge commitments for readers. Deciding to read a series means that you are putting off other books and series for weeks or a month or so, depending on the number of books. You are allowing your imaginary world to be all consuming for awhile, at least that’s how it is for me.

In the midst of the last two years I’ve been an avid reader, I’ve had to make decisions on which series to read, and sadly I’ve had to put some on hold, ones that I really want to get to!

5. THE MAGICIANS BY LEV GROSSMAN

Have you watched The Magicians television show?? I wanted to read this series before they turned it into an insane show, but now it almost hurts to wait. Judging by the show, it might not be YA, it’s pretty grotesque at times, but I think I’ll enjoy the magic of it all.

4. LEGEND BY MARIE LU

I’ve never read a Marie Lu book and it’s almost embarrassing to say that. The Legend series just seems like a great world to get lost in, and from what I’ve heard, Lu does such a great job of story telling. I also don’t want to read The Young Elites until I’ve read this series first, it just seems right.

3. TALON BY JULIE KAGAWA

If you can’t tell, I love Julie Kagawa. The Iron Fey series, next to TMI, were the books that taught me I loved YA fantasy, they really set the bar for the kind of books I enjoyed reading and writing. I also met Julie a couple of weeks ago at a book signing, and the way she talks about Talon made me mad I hadn’t gotten to them yet. I think I will wait for the release of Soldier in April to start, that way I can read straight through.

2. VAMPIRE ACADEMY BY RICHELLE MEAD

never wanted to read Vampire Academy. Not even a little bit. People would recommend it and I thought it sounded like a bunch of teenage girl drama, except the teenagers were vampires. But then last Christmas I watched the movie just as something mindless to do while wrapping presents and I was in love. I watched it a second time right after and ordered all the books. I loved Rose and I’ve heard she’s even better in the books, so I’m dying to read these.

1. DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE BY LAINI TAYLOR

I’m going to be honest, I have no idea what this series is about. I like to buy books based on the description, but I enjoy forgetting which book is about what because I like the suspense. I can tell you that seeing so many people claim this series as their absolute favorite series, and from the specific people who have recommended that I read them, I can tell that has to be good. Like, really good.

So those are my series that I just can’t wait to get to. Have you read any of them? Do you recommend any others? What series are you dying to read?

  1. I read Daughter of Smoke & Bone!! It. Was. So. Good. I have the rest of the series on my kindle, but I’ve been reading other things instead. I really gotta read the rest of it.

I’ve got all yhe Cassandra Clare books waiting for me, & with Lady Midnight’s release, I have a renewed urge to finally read them. I read the first 4 in TMI. Imma binge read the last 2, The Infernal Devices, & the Shadowhunter Academy stories in April, I think.

    1. I have yet to read the Shadowhunter Academy stories because I’m waiting on the physical book to come out. But I want to read them so bad!

    1. Thank you!
I know I’ll love Vampire Academy, so I’m just waiting to get to it. You’ll have to let me know how Legend goes, I want to read it so bad, I just lack time!

  2. I admit, as much as I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I never finished reading the last book in the series. I’m not sure why, I should really try and pick it up again. Also, I definitely loved the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu, pretty original and keeps you wanting to read more!

Talon by Julie Kagawa was a huge disappoint for me, I pushed myself to read the second one and it was even worse than the first one. I guess I had pretty high expectations because I loved her Immortal Rules trilogy.
